Barefoot Church Primer Giveaway

The Barefoot Church Primer is an eight-week guide to serving through community and is based on the book “Barefoot Church: Serving the Least in a Consumer Culture”. It’s designed for any small group, community group, or bible study group to build a stronger biblical foundation for serving the poor, gain a greater understanding of biblical mercy and justice, and learn how to engage need as an intuitive part of life.  Next week at The Verge Conference in Austin, I’ll be giving away a few pre-release copies of the Barefoot Church Primer.

Just for fun, I thought I’d pull a 25 copies from the pile and give away to those of you who have read Barefoot Church (the book) here on my blog.

So here’s what I need you to do. The first 25 people who respond to this blog with (1) a favorite quote from the book with your name and address in the comments, (2) rate and review the Barefoot Church book at Amazon.com by clicking HERE, and (3) tweet something about the primer including a link to http://www.missiopublishing.com… I will send you one of the first 25 copies available.

If you haven’t read the book yet but are still interested in the primer: Do the same as above only just promise me you’ll read and review the book soon, throw me out a tweet, and I’ll send you a copy of the primer anyway (if you’re one of the first 25).

The BFC Primer will be available for pre-order on February 24th and will be shipped March 14th.

Here’s a quick chapter preview on what you can expect:

  • Week One: The Journey
  • Week Two: Becoming Good News
  • Week Three: Mercy
  • Week Four: Justice
  • Week Five: Expose
  • Week Six: Experience
  • Week Seven: Engage
  • Week Eight: The Intuitive Life

Hi Brandon, I would love to join in on this, but I am not into publicly posting my mailing address. Any alternative? I am reading the book.

  • lpr1836

Haven’t read The Barefoot Church but I have it in my shopping cart at Amazon and on my wish list at B&N, so I can’t quote it (though I’ve read nothing but good things about your book on all the blogs that I follow) and I can’t review it yet. But I’ll tweet for you!

“Sometimes I would like to ask God why He allows poverty, suffering, and injustice when He could do something about it. But, I’m afraid He would ask me the same question.” Quote from Barefoot Church by Brandon Hatmaker.

So many quotes highlighted in my book! Here’s one of my favorites “It’s hard to place our affections on sending people, resources, and attention outward when we’re so in love with what we do inside the camp.”

  • bccain

Just shot a tweet your way. Ordering the book next week and will be taking my MC through the primer when we get done with the TK Primer. I’ll send you my address via email if I win.

Not so much a quote but the entire story of seeing the child in need and having to respond “I have nothing for you…”

  • Nancy

Favorite quote in the book; Page 27; “The least” is a collective description of those in need. It describes anyone who simply has less. “Less” can refer to anything from being under resourced to being alone, from having adequate or no housing to little or no food, from the rarity of comfort to the complete lack of freedom. Less is simple less.

Just started reading it, so here is my favorite quote through page 32,

“I’m not convinced we even know what it means to love our neighbor. I’m not convinced we care. I’m not convinced because if we did, it would change the way we live.”

This was by far my favorite book I’ve ever read! SO many GREAT things!
Can’t wait to get my hands on the primer and really work on implementing it all in to my daily life!

    My favorite quote:

“We’re going to have to hear God’s voice and discern to which part of this challenge God is calling us personally. Is He calling you to make a personal change, to develop a ministry, to engage needs locally or globally, to do an outreach, to adopt, or to foster? We have to be willing to consider anything. It’s not about what we want to do. It’s about what God wants us to do. When we are faithful to his call, he will align our hearts.”

SO GOOD! What is God calling ME to? Working on that right now!!!!

(already posted review on Amazon and will go tweet now) 🙂

My name is Dan Hunt and I am pastor of Faith Family Ministries in Hopkinsville, KY. We minister out of 1007 S. Virginia St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240 and my quote comes from p. 159 “filling seats one day a week is not what the Kingdom is all about. We do Jesus an injustice by reducing His life and ministry to such a sad story as church attendance and membership roles. The measure of the church’s influence is found in society – on the streets, not in the pews.”

  • keith barger

So glad this was available in the iBookstore!
This hit at just the right time in my ministry.

Like so many have said, too many good quotes to choose from. The first highlight I turned to was – “we may say we’re a church on mission, yet we have so many on-campus programs that our people never have timer o live on mission in their neighborhoods.”

  • Chris Canfield

Absolutely loved the book. What really pulled me in was the quote of “measuring success through the lens of the kingdom is life giving. Measuring success by focusing on attendance is like a dog chasing his tail”. Very true – butts in seats does not necessarily mean kingdom growth.

I just ordered the book. Looking forward to reading it! I think the primer will work great with what we are already doing with the Tangible Kingdom Primer.

[…] It was really refreshing to hear how God is using Brandon and his church to display the gospel of Jesus Christ. He wrote a book if you want to learn more: The Barefoot Church (Primer) […]

  • chris ellis

I’m sure this a little late for the give away but if not i would love a copy. I have read Barefoot Church three times and your beloveds books Interrputed and 7 also. You have read our mail. We recently have felt the tension and really have lost our job as children’s pastors for 15 years because our vision and focus has changed from serving the blessed to serving the least and poor. We now do Sidewalk sonday school in the projects in knoxville tn and have been ruined for the ordinary. We are working on raising our own support as urban missionaries. Our heart to be a blessing to our city and to faciliate ministering to the poor through our church’s house churches to get them out and on mission.

My favorite quote is when you talked about ” to volunteer we provide the sweat and the organiztion you are serving gets the credit, to have no agenda when serving” i love it. Our church a has a debt that has been a weight and seems to hang over our heads like an anvil. Many times I have heard them talk about outreach to get the right people in, which didn’t set with us well. We have always been drawn to the needy. And now we have been called. A huge step for us .. we have 6 children but we see the Lord’s hand in it all.

I have enjoyed your book and would like to use your primer to help house churches get started to live on mission and a class I’m teaching next school year with homeschool high school students to live on mission, which we would have each student buy your books:)

  • erinallport

Were these books ever sent out? Just curious…I really want to go through the primer, but didn’t order it b/c it said the first 25, and I was like #12….
    Anxious to read it!!!! 🙂
    Thanks!
    ~Erin
