Leadership ability is something most want but not all have. The problem comes when we think we’re high capacity leaders yet we’re not. That’s a problem because typically we’re the only one who doesn’t know. Recently Tony Morgan re-posted a BLOG zeroing in on “10 Easy Ways to Know You’re Not a Leader”.
Since it’s hard for us to evaluate ourselves, In a moment of self evaluation, I divided them into two sections: (1) Those that we can easily say we don’t do and hide from others and (2) Those that are glaringly obvious to others although we may not see them. To read the entire BLOG click HERE.
Leadership perspectives we can hide from others:
- You think you need to be in charge to have influence.
- You’re driven by the task instead of the relationships and the vision.
- Your dreams are so small, people think they can be achieved.
- You’re content (Not sure I agree on this one but I get his point).
- You’re waiting on a bigger staff & more money to accomplish your vision.
Leadership perspectives others know about us whether we do or not:
- You think you need to say something to be heard.
- You tend to foster division instead of generating a helpful dialogue.
- You find it easier to blame others for your circumstances than to take responsibility for solutions.
- It’s been some time since you said, “I messed up.”
- No one is following you.
